1. You sent an email directly to your dropbox.

Your dropbox is for tracking communication with others so it’s intended to receive CC, BCC, and forwarded emails only. If you send an email directly to your dropbox address and it doesn’t contain a CC, BCC, or forwarded email address, Highrise doesn’t know whom to assign it to and the email will bounce.

2. You removed the “Fwd:” or “FW:” tag from a
forwarded email.

You need to include the “Fwd:” or “FW:” tag in the subject line of forwarded emails. That tag lets Highrise know what to do with the email.

3. You used the wrong dropbox address.

Make sure you’re using the right dropbox address. To check, click on “My info”.

You can not email someone else’s dropbox, only your own.

4. You forwarded an email that does not include the
contact’s address.

If you are forwarding an email, the body of the forwarded email must include the contact’s from address (e.g. “From: Jane Doe <jane.doe@hotmail.com>”).
Email example

Without this “From:” part of the email, Highrise won’t be able to associate the email with the right contact. If your email client doesn’t include this automatically, you can always just manually insert “From: Jane Doe <jane.doe@hotmail.com>” at the top of the email. Highrise will take it from there.

5. You sent a forwarded email as a MIME attachment.

Some email clients (like Thunderbird) will give people the option to send forwarded messages as MIME attachments, rather than quoting the message inline. Highrise does not understand these MIME attachments. Your email client needs to be configured to send forwarded messages quoted inline.

6. Your email address is not entered correctly in Highrise.

If there’s a typo in your email address in Highrise, your email will be “swallowed” without notice because our bounce notifications will be going to that wrong address. Double check your own contact information and make sure the right address is listed.

7. You sent the email from a different address than the one listed in Highrise.

If you send an email from an address that’s not listed under you contact information in Highrise, it won’t be processed correctly. Since you can enter multiple emails at Highrise, it’s a good idea to just go ahead and add any addresses that you may be using in the future.

8. You sent a HTML email.

Highrise can not always decipher HTML emails. Send emails in plain-text format instead.

9. The “From:” header in the quoted body of the email is missing, malformed, or not in English.

In forwarded emails, Highrise looks for a “From: someone@example.com” header. If the “From” is missing, malformed, or not in English, it won’t work. You’ll need to fix it or rename it to English for Highrise to process it correctly.
