About the future of Highrise

Hello,

Back in 2007 we launched Highrise. What started out as a simple tool to keep track of who you talked to, what was said, and when to follow up next, eventually matured into a full-fledged CRM trusted by more than 10,000 companies around the world. It's been a big success.

And yet today, 11 years later, we're making the hard call to end development of Highrise. This follows months of deliberation after Highrise moved back in with Basecamp in April. We explored all sorts of ideas for the product, but ultimately came to the conclusion that neither continuing to develop the existing application, or relaunching it anew, was something we as an organization could get to HELL YEAH! on.

This does not mean Highrise is going away. Highrise is here for good. In fact, current customers can continue to use Highrise forever. Your account, your contacts, and your data will always remain safe and accessible in Highrise.

But it does mean that we won't be actively developing it anymore. The way Highrise works today, will be the way it works tomorrow, a year from now, 5 years from now, 10 years from now, etc. Today's version of Highrise is the forever version of Highrise.

However, since Highrise runs on the shared infrastructure that powers Basecamp, Highrise will continue to receive the appropriate security and infrastructure updates to make sure it runs as securely and reliably as always (99.99% uptime over the last 12 months, for example).

In many ways, that's a baffling business decision. We know how many Highrise customers love and depend on the product, and had hopes for future development. It sucks to disappoint good customers like that. It stings to turn down the future prospects of a successful business. But it's decisions like this that allows us to be the kind of company that we are.

We know this may not be the most welcomed news, but it's the decision we've made. If you have any additional questions, please drop a note to support@highrisehq.com and we'll get back to you within a day.

Thanks for support thus far, and we look forward to continuing to support you for many years to come.

Onwards,

-Jason Fried, CEO, Basecamp
